AANS International Visiting Surgeons Fellowship

The AANS is committed to increasing its involvement in international neurosurgery, in particular furthering educational opportunities in developing countries. One meaningful offering is the AANS International Visiting Surgeons Fellowship. The AANS funds two observational fellowships per fiscal year to provide meaningful educational experiences in North America to international neurosurgeons who will practice and/or teach neurosurgery in their home countries.

Applications for the fellowship will be accepted beginning in September.

Meet Past Recipients

AANS Financial Support

If approved the AANS fellowship will provide each of the two recipients:

  1. $1500/monthly stipend ($4,500 if Fellowship is for three months)
  2. Reimbursement for one round trip coach airfare to Fellowship location
  3. Travel reimbursement & free registration to the AANS Annual Meeting April 9-13, 2011 in Denver, CO, if recipient is serving the fellowship in North America at the time of the Annual Meeting. This includes:
    • round trip air fare/travel from their fellowship location to and from Philadelphia, PA
    • free hotel room
    • a spending stipend for the meeting
    • General registration fee for the meeting

    Qualifications

    The applicant must be a neurosurgeon or neurosurgeon-in-training in a developing country as defined by the World Bank. He/she should be on staff at a local hospital (and preferably medical school) involved in neurosurgical patient care and neurosurgical education.
