ORLANDO (May 3, 2004) - Jon H. Robertson, MD, was named Secretary of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) for a second year (three-year term), at the AANS Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida, May 1- May 6, 2004. An active member of the AANS since 1983, he serves as Chair of the Development Committee; Member of the Neuro-Knowledge™ Advisory Task Force; and has served as a Member of the AANS Board of Directors (1999-present); Member of the Coordinating Committee for Continuing Education (1999-present); Member of the Joint Sponsorship Committee for CME Accreditation (1998-present); and Chair of the Annual Meeting Committee (1994).

Dr. Robertson was named Director of the University of Tennessee, Memphis Department of Neurosurgery Residency Program, and Professor and Chair of the University of Tennessee, Memphis Department of Neurosurgery in February, 1997.

After earning his bachelor's degree from Southwestern College in Memphis and a medical degree from the University of Tennessee Medical School, Dr. Robertson completed his internship and a year of general surgery at the City of Memphis Hospitals. He finished his neurosurgery residency in 1979 at the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences. Dr. Robertson was certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 1982.

Active in many professional organizations, Dr. Robertson has served as a member of the Semmes-Murphey Clinic, American Board of Neurological Surgery, American Academy of Neurological Surgeons, Society of University of Neurosurgeons, The Society of Neurological Surgeons, North American Skull Base Society and the Southern Neurosurgical Society.

Dr. Robertson has authored two books including, Lasers in Neurosurgery and Cranial Base Surgery.

Founded in 1931 as the Harvey Cushing Society, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) is a scientific and educational association with more than 6,500 members worldwide. The AANS is dedicated to advancing the specialty of neurological surgery in order to provide the highest quality of neurosurgical care to the public. All active members of the AANS are certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Neurosurgery) of Canada or the Mexican Council of Neurological Surgery, AC. Neurological surgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of disorders that affect the entire nervous system including the spinal column, spinal cord, brain and peripheral nerves.
