NEW ORLEANS (April 18, 2005) Jon H. Robertson, MD, was named secretary of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) for the final year of his three-year term, at the AANS Annual Meeting in New Orleans, April 16-21, 2005. An active member of the AANS since 1983, he has served on the AANS Board of Directors since 1999. He is chair of the Development Committee, and a member of the following committees: Education and Maintenance of Certification, Executive, Finance, Long-Range Planning, and Neuro-Knowledge™ Advisory Task Force. He served as chair of the Annual Meeting Committee in 1994.
Dr. Robertson was named director of the University of Tennessee, Memphis Department of Neurosurgery Residency Program, and professor and chair of the University of Tennessee, Memphis Department of Neurosurgery in 1997.
After earning his bachelor's degree from Southwestern College in Memphis and a medical degree from the University of Tennessee Medical School, Dr. Robertson completed his internship and a year of general surgery at the City of Memphis Hospitals. He finished his neurosurgery residency in 1979 at the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences. Dr. Robertson was certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 1982.
Active in many professional organizations, Dr. Robertson has served as a member of the Semmes-Murphey Clinic, American Board of Neurological Surgery, American Academy of Neurological Surgeons, Society of University of Neurosurgeons, The Society of Neurological Surgeons, North American Skull Base Society and the Southern Neurosurgical Society.
Dr. Robertson is a published author, including the two books, Lasers in Neurosurgery and Cranial Base Surgery.
Founded in 1931 as the Harvey Cushing Society, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) is a scientific and educational association with more than 6,800 members worldwide.
