FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON (April 16, 2007) – Troy M. Tippett, MD, FACS,
was named vice president of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons
(AANS) at the AANS Annual Meeting – Celebrating AANS’ Diamond Jubilee – in
Washington, D.C., April 16-19, 2007 for a one-year term. A member of the AANS
since 1979, he has served on the AANS Board of Directors since 2004. He has
been chair of the AANS/CNS Washington Committee since 2004. He is a member
of the following committees: Bylaws, Executive, Finance, Long-Range Planning,
Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation Executive Council and the NeurosurgeryPAC
Board of Directors. In 2003, Dr. Tippett received the Distinguished Service
Award from the AANS.
Dr. Tippett has been in private practice and a member of the Neurosurgical
Group in Pensacola, Fla. since 1976, and medical director of this practice
since 1988. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Missouri,
Columbia, and received his medical degree in 1969 from the University of Tennessee
Center for the Health Sciences in Memphis, Tenn. He completed his internship
at City of Memphis Hospitals and neurosurgery residency at the University of
Dr. Tippett most recently finished a one-year term as president of the Florida
Medical Association, a position he held from 2005 to 2006. He has also served
as president of the Neurosurgical Society of America, the Florida Neurosurgical
Society and the Escambia County Medical Society. He currently serves as chair
of the Florida American Medical Association Delegation. He is a member of many
professional organizations including the Congress of Neurological Surgeons,
the Southern Neurosurgical Society and is a Fellow of the American College
of Surgeons.
Dr. Tippett has authored papers and articles for scientific journals on topics
including carotid endarterectomy, disc herniation and cervical spine procedures.
Founded in 1931 as the Harvey Cushing Society, the American Association of
Neurological Surgeons (AANS) is a scientific and educational association with
more than 6,800 members worldwide. The AANS is dedicated to advancing the specialty
of neurological surgery in order to provide the highest quality of neurosurgical
care to the public. All active members of the AANS are certified by the American
Board of Neurological Surgery, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons
(Neurosurgery) of Canada or the Mexican Council of Neurological Surgery, AC.
Neurological surgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention,
diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of disorders that affect the entire
nervous system including the spinal column, spinal cord, brain and peripheral
nerves.
