Donald O. Quest, MD
AANS President
The scientific program features the latest technological innovations and scientific advances from all areas of neurosurgery, presented within the framework of the practical clinics, breakfast seminars, plenary sessions, scientific and section sessions. While this meeting highlights cutting-edge research and the latest advances in the field, it also offers a wonderful setting to reflect back on the 75 years of tradition and excellence that have enabled the AANS to help move neurosurgery forward.

Mitchel S. Berger, MD, FACS
Annual Meeting Chair
Throughout the history of the AANS, women have made significant contributions to the field, going back to Louise Eisenhardt in the 1930s. Although great strides have been made by women in neurosurgery over the last 75 years, the AANS recognizes how crucial it is to continually encourage new legions of female medical students to pursue neurosurgical careers. In the spirit of diversity outreach, several renowned women will present during plenary sessions, as well as lead seminars and clinics. In addition, throughout the week, an increased number of hours will be devoted to the socioeconomic issues challenging neurosurgery.

A memorable activity of every AANS Annual Meeting is socializing and networking with friends and colleagues at the Opening Reception. Mingle with friends, old and new, while enjoying the special cuisine—with the dazzling sights and sounds of the National Air and Space Museum as the backdrop. The social program highlights the best of Washington, DC, including the highly coveted, sought-after entrance tickets to the Holocaust Museum, the final home game of the Washington Wizards and a chance to sail on the Chesapeake Schooner, the Woodwind, to name just a few.

The AANS continues its mission and long-standing tradition of providing you with the highest quality educational, sharing and networking opportunities. We hope to see all of you in Washington, DC, celebrating the AANS 75th Diamond Jubilee Anniversary!

Scientific Program Chair
Timothy B. Mapstone, MD
Scientific Program Chair
The 2007 Scientific Program Committee, under the leadership of Dr. Mapstone, has developed an outstanding program which will include 38 practical clinics, 79 breakfast seminars, 146 oral paper presentations and over 483 poster presentations. Nine of the practical clinics and seven of the breakfast seminars are new this year. In addition, to take advantage of our Washington, DC venue, three afternoon plenary sessions have been added on socioeconomic topics. If you took advantage of the opportunity to register early for the meeting, be sure to visit the Annual Meeting Registration section on www.AANS.org and reference your PIN to register for practical clinics, breakfast seminars and all other ticketed events today. Many courses sell out early, so don’t miss your opportunity to register for the most popular courses.
