AANS Tracks Member Continuing Medical Education

AANS makes it easy for members to track the CME so vital for re-licensure, hospital and faculty appointments, national and state medical organization memberships, and even sustaining malpractice insurance. As a membership benefit, AANS records and tracks your CME through a password-protected, personalized area of the AANS Web site called MyAANS.org. MyAANS.org provides customized CME reports, enabling members to access and print out a copy of their personalized CME transcript, subspecialty transcript, which reflects subspecialty classification for AANS Annual Meetings and AANS/CNS Section meetings, as well as certificates of credit from AANS-sponsored and joint-sponsored meetings. If you do not have your personal login-instructions indicating your password, contact AANS Member Services at 888-566-AANS (or 847-378-0500) or info@aans.org.

AANS CME Policy: January 1, 2008-December 31, 2010

On January 1, 2005, the AANS Executive Committee implemented new rules and regulations. The AANS Executive Committee changed the previous CME policy so that we can assist members in obtaining and tracking appropriate CME credits to meet the anticipated requirements of the ABNS for Maintenance of Certification as well as those mandated by other outside agencies. During the January 1, 2008-December 31, 2010 CME cycle, members will only earn the Award by attending designated Category 1 AMA/PRA activities. Active and Active Provisional members and grandfathered International members residing in the U.S. are required to document receipt of the Continuing Education Award in Neurosurgery to maintain membership in the AANS. This Award is earned by documenting at least 60 neurosurgical credits within the CME cycle. The current three-year cycle is January 1, 2008-December 31, 2010. These include:

  • AANS-sponsored meetings
  • AANS joint-sponsored meetings*
  • AANS co-sponsored/endorsed meetings
  • AANS/CNS Section meetings
  • CNS Annual Meetings
  • AANS Home Study CME activities

*Visit the Joint Sponsorship Corner for more information. We will provide updates to this list as new information becomes available.

As a continued service to its members, the AANS will track other neurosurgical Category 1 AMA/PRA credits not mentioned above. Please note that these credits will not be applicable toward the Continuing Education Award in Neurosurgery required for maintaining membership. Transcripts containing these credits can be used for local and state requirement purposes.
