When it comes to major advances in neurosurgery, history shows that these developments have taken place throughout the 20th century, as well as within the first dozen years of the 21st century. To help chronicle and share knowledge about these advances, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) has created its own "Cyber Museum of Neurosurgery."
Initial efforts with the Cyber Museum have been devoted to the display of material readily available in the AANS Archives. Future efforts are planned that will allow the many areas of the specialty to create "exhibits" of special interest. Among these exhibits will be advances in pediatric neurosurgery, the history of the management of pain and movement disorders, military medicine, neurosurgical instrumentation development, and a focus on major personalities in the development of the neurosciences. In addition, coming exhibits are planned to include audio and video clips from the oral history program, Leaders in Neuroscience.
