The American Association of Neurological Surgeons is dedicated to increasing international participation in AANS. These pages focus on information of particular interest to neurosurgeons and allied medical professionals practicing outside of the United States.

News/Announcements

  • 2011 AANS International Visiting Surgeon Fellowship Application Area Now Open. The AANS will be accepting applications for this observational fellowship through August 31, 2010. The fellowship provides an opportunity for a neurosurgeon in a developing country to visit a North American neurosurgical program.

  • Medical registrants of the 2010 AANS Annual Meeting were given an iPod touch device. To support this initiative, the AANS created a variety of content in addition to the actual meeting application. Learn more about videos, podcasts and other content available for use on the iPod touch.

  • The International Symposium during the 2010 AANS Annual Meeting: For this year's International Day on Saturday, May 1, the AANS worked with the Sociedade Brasileira de Neurocirurgia. Their president, Luiz Carlos de Alencastro, MD assisted the AANS Scientific Program committee in developing the program for this international symposium.

  • AANS International Reception and Award ProgramAANS International Reception & Award Program: attendees of the AANS 2010 Annual Meeting enjoyed visiting with colleagues and recognizing award recipients.


Award Announcements:

  • AANS International Lifetime Recognition Award
    AANS honored Jose G. MARTIN-RODRIGUEZ , MD from Madrid, Spain at the AANS International Reception, Monday, May 3. Dr. Martin-Rodriguez has been involved in many international neurosurgical organizations and journals. He is most recognized for his decades of service to the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) and his humanitarian efforts to advance neurosurgical education in developing countries.   • Best International Abstract Award: Pedro Lylyk, MD, from Buenos Aires Argentina, for his abstract titled Endovascular Treatment of Ruptured Intracranial Anuerysm with PipelineTM Flow-Diverter Stent: Pros and Cons.

JNS Publishing Group (Journal of Neurosurgery) Announcements:

  • The AANS funded the conversion of articles published by the Journal of Neurosurgery (JNS) since its inception in 1944 into articles that can be posted online. Articles are posted on the Journal of Neurosurgery Publishing Group (JNSPG) Web site at http://thejns.org/loi/jns.

  • All journal subscribers have access to all of this content. Those without a journal subscription can access articles older than 12 months through 10 years. These are open access. Anything older than 10 years can be purchased as a single article, through "pay per view."

  • AANS' publishing arm, the JNS Publishing Group participates in The Health InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative (HINARI), which provides free or very low cost online access to the major journals in biomedical and related social sciences to local, not-for-profit institutions in developing countries. Online access to all three Journal of Neurosurgery print journals is provided to library users in all Band I countries participating in the World Health Organization HINARI program.
