The AANS offers membership to neurosurgeons outside of North America in three different categories. To receive the International Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (IFAANS) honorific, a dues-paying member must remain in good standing for a five-year period.

Through the Health InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative (HINARI), access to the Journal of Neurosurgery (JNS) is available in many countries.
