Fellowship Announcements:

The AANS International Visiting Surgeons Fellowship is an effort by the AANS to assist our colleagues in developing countries with an educational experience at a North American Neurosurgical Training Program — typically three months in duration. The AANS is accepting applications for the 2010 AANS International Visiting Surgeon Fellowship.

   The 2009 recipients are:

 Haitham Handhal
 Shareef
Haitham Handhel Shareef MBChB IBMS from Baghdad, Iraq.
Dr. Shareef has planned an observational experience that includes studying recent advances in spinal instrumentation; cerebrovascular surgery especially that of aneurysm clipping; as well as general neuroendovascular skull base surgery techniques. He will be working with Alan S. Boulos MD at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY.


Shahzad Shamim MD, from Karachi Pakistan. Dr. Shamim plans to concentrate on the areas of neuro-intensive care and brain tumor research. Further goals include closely observe the workings of an established neurosurgery service and training program in US to help him share ideas, practices and improve neurosurgery service in Pakistan.
