Neurosurgeons May Be Eligible for Federal Funds for
Emergency Care Costs

Several years ago, Congress passed a provision in the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 making $250 million of federal funds available for physicians and other providers to help cover the costs of providing emergency care (hospital inpatient, outpatient and ambulance services) to undocumented aliens for fiscal years 2005-2008. However, this funding source is currently being underutilized by physicians.

Neurosurgeons may be eligible to receive funding if they enroll in the program. Enrollment and reimbursement for this program is conducted quarterly, and the next enrollment deadline is May 31. Signing up by this date will allow you to submit "Section 1011" claims for the period from October 1, 2006 to December 31, 2006.

More information about the program is available at:
https://www.trailblazerhealth.com/Section1011/Default.aspx.

You can also contact TrailBlazer Health Enterprises, the national contractor for the program, at 866/860-1011.
