Medicare to Hold Payments for Nine Days
Medicare carriers will place a hold on Medicare payments for all claims from September 22 through September 30, 2006, the last nine days of the Federal fiscal year. The payment delays are required by the Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) of 2006. No interest will accrue and no late penalties will be paid. Claims held during this period will be paid on October 2, 2006. While checks will be written on October 2, the mailing of paper checks may be delayed by several days, depending on the volume of checks to be processed by the carrier.
