Medical Liability Reform

The Washington Committee's efforts aided in passing a comprehensive medical liability reform bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. While the U.S. Senate has failed to follow suit, significant progress has been made in gaining additional support from Senators who have in the past voted against such legislation. Recognizing that the medical liability crisis is Neurosurgery's most pressing problem, the Washington Committee has launched an aggressive multi-million dollar public-education and advocacy campaign aimed at passing meaningful federal medical liability reform legislation. To provide AANS with the maximum flexibility to fight this battle, the AANS, along with the CNS, has created a new advocacy organization called Neurosurgeons to Preserve Health Care Access (NPHCA). NPHCA will combine its resources with those from other medical societies to educate the public and the Congress about the medical liability crisis and its affect on access to neurosurgical care through television and radio announcements, print media, patient education materials and other grassroots and public outreach efforts.
