Neurosurgical Research

  • Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation
The NREF of the AANS provides research grants to residents and clinicians in neurosurgery. NREF has awarded nearly $3.5 million since 1981 to fund 83 scientific investigations. As a result, significant advances have been made in the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors, strokes, and spinal disorders, while advances have been made in pain therapy, stem cell research and pediatric epilepsy. Many of NREF's awardees have received additional funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to continue their research. Members can support research activities by providing NREF program information (such as the Tribute and Memorial programs) to patients and their families. Member support is also crucial to the continuation of new focused studies, enabling the critical research that will lead to medical innovations and improved patient care. Contributions to NREF can be made by contacting the AANS Director of Development at 847/378-0500, or online at www.NeurosurgeryToday.org

  • Neuro-KnowledgeTM Program
Neuro-KnowledgeTM manages neurosurgical clinical trials and registries, evaluates neurosurgical practice and expense issues and gathers opinions from practicing neurosurgeons. Neuro-KnowledgeTM services are focused on three areas of data collection: clinical trials (including recruiting investigators and managing data), observational studies such as registries, and opinion research, including surveys, expert panels and speakers. Results of a recent study by Neuro-KnowledgeTM for Six Flags conducted through this group can now be viewed.
