ACS/NREF-AANS Faculty Career Development Award

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation (NREF) of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) are offering a two-year Faculty Career Development Award to neurological surgeons.

The award is to support the establishment of a new and independent research program in an area of neurological surgery, co-sponsored by the ACS and the NREF. The award is $40,000 per year for each of two years and is available to members or candidate members of both the ACS and the AANS. Applicants must have received full-time faculty appointment at a US or Canadian accredited medical school. Application deadline is November 15, 2008. Click here for application

NREF/American Academy of Neurological Surgery (AAcNS) Fellowship

The Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation (NREF) and The American Academy of Neurological Surgery (AAcNS) announces a newly established fellowship.The Academy will provide funding to any research that is meritorious in neurosurgery; it does not need to be in a specified area. It is hoped that this may be the first of several such research awards to follow from the American Academy. The Academy is delighted to partner with the NREF in this regard. NREF-AANS/CNS Cerebrovascular Section Research Grant – NEW!

The AANS/CNS Joint Section on Cerebrovascular Surgery and the NREF co-sponsor the Cerebrovascular Section Award. This grant supports research in the area of treatment and care for patients with cerebrovascular disease. The award will be determined as RF or YCI after all applications are reviewed. This one-year award provides $40,000 in research support. Application deadline is October 31, 2008. Click here for application

NREF/Spine & Peripheral Nerves Section Young Clinician Investigator Award

The AANS/CNS Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves and the NREF co-sponsor the NREF/Spine Section Young Clinician Investigator Award. The Young Clinician Investigator Award supports young faculty who are pursuing careers in research. Applicants must be neurosurgeons who are full-time faculty in North American teaching institutions, and in the early years of their careers. The purpose of this award is to fund pilot studies that will yield data to be used to strengthen applications for longer-duration funding from other sources. This one-year award provides $40,000 in research support. To be considered for this particular the co-sponsored grant, the research must address spinal cord, vertebral column, or peripheral nerve disorders. Application deadline is October 31, 2008. NREF Pinnacle Partners in Neurosurgery Research Grant

Pinnacle Partners are companies who have aligned themselves with the AANS, indicating their belief in the neurosurgical specialty and desire to help secure a solid, more sophisticated future for both of us. In partnering with the AANS and the Neurosurgical Research and Education Foundation, this research grant provides $40,000 in research support. Application deadline is October 31, 2008.
