Your support of the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation (NREF) makes a difference. Just ask Michael A. Vogelbaum, MD who believes:

"The work that I initiated under my Young Clinician Investigator Award continues to this day. We have focused on the hypothesis that pro-apoptotic signaling requires the activation of Bax and that this activation is impaired in gliomas. The results obtained during the NREF award period have helped us obtain additional funding to continue this work."
--Michael A. Vogelbaum, MD, The Cleveland Clinic 2000 Young Clinician Investigator

It helps bright, young neurosurgeons, like Dr. Vogelbaum, establish their labs, perform basic science research and compile results that when applied, can dramatically improve patient care and may ultimately save lives.

Since its inception in 1981, NREF has been able to direct nearly $3.5 million dollars to fund 83 specific scientific investigations. Over $400,000 in grants is awarded annually. We rely heavily on donations to continue our mission of providing funding for basic science and clinical, patient-based research projects.

Your support is paramount to NREF's ability to continue funding opportunities for promising young researchers and faculty members. Through their investigations, some initial advances in the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors, strokes, epilepsy, spinal cord injuries and Parkinson's disease have been uncovered.

Show your support of education and research by making an annual gift to the Foundation, donating in memory of a loved one, giving in honor of a survivor or to commemorate your own fellowship award. Your investment in NREF will help keep the doors of young researchers lab open, sending a message to them that their work is important and potentially life-saving.

Contributions made to the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation (NREF) of the American Association of Neurosurgeons (AANS), which is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code, are deductible for computing income and estate taxes.
