Endowments

Over the years, numerous endowments have been set-up through the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation (NREF), in memory of and in honor of mentors, families and friends of AANS members. Some of these endowments are related to the AANS Annual Meeting, while others are awards given through NREF.
|
As a permanently restricted gift to the Foundation, your gift's principle can remain untouched, with the investment income supporting a specific educational program. Or, the gift can be made with the intention of supporting programs or initiatives with the gift's principle spent.
Existing endowments include:
Ronald L. Bittner Symposium
Ronald L. Bittner Best Paper
This endowment was established in 2000 by Mrs. E. Laurie Bittner, in memory of her husband ronald L. Bittner, who died of a glioma. The topics for the symposium and best paper are limited to brain tumor work. |
Rhoton Family Lecture
Established in 2002 by Dr. Albert Rhoton, Jr., through his family trust, this lecture occurs at the AANS Annual Meeting. |
Hunt-Wilson Lecture
Thanks to the generosity of Timir Banerjee, MD, this endowed lecture was established in 1999 in memory of his mentors, Dr. William Hunt and Dr. Charles Wilson. |
Richard C. Schneider Lecture
This lecture was initiated in 1988 and funded in perpetuity in 2002 by the University of Michigan alumni, thanks in part, to the efforts of Dr. Julian Hoff. |
Kurze Lecture
The newest endowed lecture at the AANS Annual Meeting, it was established in 2003 by Dr. and Mrs. John J. Guarnaschelli, to honor and recognize his mentor, Dr. Theodore Kurze. The first lecture occurred in San Diego and was delivered by Professor M. Gazi Yasargil, M.D. |
Richard U. Light Endowment
Established by Dr. Richard U. Light in 1994, this endowment funds the continued reprinting of The Bibliography of the Writings of Harvey Cushing, which is provided to each new AANS member. |
