How are cancellations and refunds being handled?

The AANS will automatically cancel your existing registration and housing (if booked through onPeak, the AANS official housing bureau) and refund all fees. Refunds will be processed back to the original form of payment. You will NOT need to contact the AANS to initiate a refund.

Registration Refunds

Refunds for registered attendees will begin processing on April 22, 2020, and the process will take up to 48 hours to complete. If you registered more than one individual, please be patient, you may have one processed at the beginning of the process and one at the end. Please note that if your registration required multiple payments, multiple transactions will be made for the refund.

Once your refund has been processed, your credit card should reflect the refund transaction within 7-14 business days. Again, if multiple transactions were made they most likely will not show up on the cards at the same time. This is out of the control of the AANS and CSI. Please look at your credit card(s) regularly, as this process could take 7-14 business days. The AANS and CSI cannot tell you how quickly your refund will show up on your card.

Why is the 2020 AANS Annual Scientific Meeting cancelled?

The health, safety and well-being of our attendees, faculty, speakers, exhibitors and staff is of paramount importance. Given the latest information available, the AANS Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 AANS Annual Scientific Meeting in Boston, April 25-29.

Our leadership and professional staff have been communicating daily to discuss recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO), as well as authorities in Boston. We have also been tracking the travel policy restrictions affecting our members and attendees as many academic centers and health systems instituted travel bans or restrictions. It became clear that canceling is the right decision in order to protect the safety and well-being of meeting attendees. Furthermore, taking this action will ensure that our members, who represent a critical element of the healthcare workforce, are available to provide neurosurgical care to patients.

Are all additional events associated with the 2020 Annual Scientific Meeting cancelled as well?

All additional events, including receptions, the exhibit hall, pre-conference sessions and committee meetings are also cancelled. If you were meeting with another organization on site in Boston, please reach out to them directly with questions.

Will the 2020 Annual Scientific Meeting be postponed until a later date or rescheduled?

No. Meetings the size of the AANS Annual Scientific Meeting are planned years in advance. We carefully coordinate with each host city to accommodate our attendees during a specific timeframe and rescheduling is not an option.

Will attendees and exhibitors be refunded by the AANS for hotel and airline costs?

The AANS will not be able to reimburse you for your travel expenses. Unless you booked your hotel with onPeak, you will need to cancel your hotel reservations immediately. We suggest you contact your airline and request a refund. If they are unwilling to grant a full refund, they may be willing to reschedule you for another flight in the future.

Will registration and exhibit fees be refunded?

We expect to issue refunds within the next 60-90 days and will let you know if we need any additional information. Please, be patient as we process more than 6,000 refunds for attendees, exhibitors, vendors and other partners.

Can the AANS assist with cancellations and refunds that were booked outside of onPeak?

Unfortunately, the AANS is unable to assist in hotel reservations made outside the AANS Official Housing Block through onPeak, including refund inquiries and disputes. You must contact the hotel directly as the sole responsible party. The AANS looks forward to hosting the 2021 AANS Annual Scientific Meeting in Vancouver and encourages attendees to take advantage of onPeak’s services. For the convenience of attendees, the AANS ensures that the official housing block is open a full year before the meeting.

When is the next AANS Annual Scientific Meeting?

The next AANS Annual Scientific Meeting will take place in Vancouver, April 17-21, 2021.

Will any sessions be made available virtually?

AANS leaders and staff are exploring options to expand online educational opportunities for additional CME.

What will happen with simultaneous publications and abstracts? Do embargo rules still apply?

Current embargo rules apply. The AANS will be contacting all scheduled presenting authors as plans are finalized.
