The neurosurgical advanced practice provider (APP) plays an important role in the management of surgical wounds in the operating room and in the outpatient clinic. This course is for the novice APP who is looking to gain/improve their skills in the OR with in-depth discussion on methods of wound closure for patients undergoing both cranial and spinal procedures. Wound closure techniques in patients undergoing first-time surgical procedures will be discussed as well as techniques for closing "difficult" wounds and "re-do" procedures. Didactic lectures will be followed by a hands-on session utilizing biologic material (pig feet) to practice basic and advanced wound closure and knot-tying management of wound complications in the outpatient clinic will also be discussed, including when to refer patients for advanced wound care therapy.
