The high quality of medical care we enjoy today is built upon years of effort by physicians and other medical professionals investigating the causes of and potential treatments for disease. The tireless effort by countless medical professionals combined with federally-funded biomedical research has greatly improved our quality of life. Diseases that were once a death sentence are now treatable. Given this, the AANS and CNS continue to urge Congress to expand the scope of the current federal policy on medical research and to ensure that appropriate funding is allocated to such programs.
