as Secretary of Health and Human Services.
As a third generation doctor, you have a deep understanding of the effect health care policy can have on
patients as well as physicians. We believe you will bring a wealth of knowledge to the position and be an
important advocate for the health care community. Furthermore, your experience as Budget Committee
Chairman and as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee provides additional awareness of policy
changes that are both effective and fiscally responsible.
In your 12 years as a congressman, you were a champion for physicians and patients. You introduced several
bills that seek to reduce government interference in the patient-doctor relationship. Your voting record and your
willingness to listen to diverse heath care stakeholders reveals a promising future for health care reform. To aid
you in these efforts, please find attached the Alliance of Specialty Medicine’s 2017 Health Policy Principles.
