The AANS and the CNS joined over 100 leading national specialty societies and state medical associations in a letter opposing the Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act of 2025 (S. 106/H.R. 539). This legislation seeks to expand the definition of “physician” under Medicare Part B to include chiropractors and allow reimbursement for services well beyond spinal manipulation, including evaluation and management services, diagnostics, and therapies.
The joint letter strongly opposes this proposed expansion, citing significant concerns about patient safety, Medicare costs, and public confusion over provider qualifications. Organized medicine emphasized that chiropractors do not undergo the same rigorous training or clinical experience as MDs and DOs and should not be authorized to provide or bill for services outside their training.
The AANS and the CNS will continue to advocate for physician-led care grounded in appropriate training and clinical standards.
