Neurosurgery Supports Prior Authorization Reform Legislation

On March 27, Reps. Mark Green, MD, (R-Tenn.) and Kim Schrier, MD, (D-Wash.) introduced prior authorization legislation, the Reducing Medically Unnecessary Delays in Care Act (H.R. 2433). This legislation would ensure that board-certified physicians make prior authorization decisions in Medicare and Medicare Advantage in the same specialty as the physician of the treatment or disease in question, and direct plans to comply with requirements around medical necessity and written clinical criteria.
