NREF Success Story: Dr. Ezequiel Goldschmidt
Ezequiel Goldschmidt, MD, PhD, is the 2020-21 William P. Van Wagenen Fellow. He was awarded this prestigious award to pursue the research in “Recreating neuroplasticity via a cortico-cortico trans-pial bypass.” Dr. Goldschmidt began his fellowship at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden in July 2020 under the supervision and mentorship of Dr. Jens Hjerling-Leffler.
To date, Dr. Goldschmidt’s work has produced two papers. The first, “Sylvian fissure development is linked to differential genetic expression in the pre-folded brain,” was published in Scientific Reports. Although Dr. Goldschmidt’s started the paper during residency in Pittsburgh, his time at Karolinska Institutet was instrumental in getting the paper to the finish line. The most recent paper, entitled “Brain folding shapes the branching pattern of the middle cerebral artery,” has been published in the journal PLOS One.
The NREF congratulates Dr. Goldschmidt and looks forward to following the progress of his fellowship.
