Neurosurgery Urges Congress to Fund National Concussion Surveillance System

On Sept. 14, the AANS and the CNS sent a letter to Sens. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.) requesting $5 million to fund the National Concussion Surveillance System. Authorized by the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Program Reauthorization Act of 2018 (P.L. 115-377), this provision reflects the recommendations of the Committee on Sports-Related Concussions in Youth and others to establish and oversee a national surveillance system to accurately determine the incidence of sports-related concussions, including those ages 5 to 21.
