Tumor Section – Intraoperative Fluorescence-Guided Surgery and Photodynamic Therapy for Glioblastoma: A New Combined Approach

  • Tumor

This webinar explores an innovative combined approach to glioblastoma treatment that integrates intraoperative fluorescence-guided surgery (FGS) with photodynamic therapy (PDT). The session will discuss how 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA), and other fluorophores help neurosurgeons better visualize tumor boundaries during resection. In addition, intraoperative photodynamic therapy (PDT) will be explored as a complementary approach to target residual cancer cells. Our presenter and Chair of the AANS/CNS Tumor Section, Dr. Costas Hadjipanayis, will discuss clinical applications, research outcomes, and ongoing trials of this combined approach, highlighting its potential to improve extent of resection and local tumor control in glioblastoma patients.
