On behalf of more than 4,000 practicing neurosurgeons in the United States, the American Association of
Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), we appreciate the
opportunity to comment on the above-referenced CMS hospital inpatient prospective payment system
proposed rule.
SUMMARY OF COMMENTS
Request for Information on Physician-owned Hospitals
- The AANS and CNS strongly support availability and expansion of physician-owned hospitals.
Eliminating Inappropriate Medicare Payment Differentials for Similar Services in the Inpatient and
Outpatient Settings
- The AANS and CNS continue to believe that inpatient status should be determined by the admitting surgeon.
