Joint Providership for CME Activities
The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
By working with the AANS, your organization gains access to an accredited provider with experience supporting specialty education, national meetings and multidisciplinary programs. Our structured approach helps you navigate compliance requirements while maintaining focus on your educational goals.
What Is Joint Providership?
The ACCME defines joint providership as the providership of a CME activity by one or more accredited and one or more nonaccredited organizations.
In this collaboration, the AANS assumes responsibility for ensuring the activity meets all ACCME standards, including requirements related to independence and content integrity.
To qualify, activities must align with the AANS CME mission and meet ACCME definitions for continuing medical education.

Who Should Apply
Joint providership is designed for organizations that develop educational activities for physicians and clinical professionals. This includes medical societies, health systems, academic institutions, event planners and education companies seeking accreditation to support CME delivery. Ineligible companies do not qualify for joint providership.
Joint Providership Process
The process is designed to move your activity from concept to completion in a clear and manageable way. Start by submitting an application for review. Once approved, you will work with the AANS to complete the required documentation. After delivery, final materials are submitted to close out the activity.

Timeline and Key Requirements
To allow adequate time for review and planning, applications should be submitted at least six months before the activity start date. Once approved, your organization will receive a timeline and checklist outlining key milestones and submission requirements.
Throughout the process, your team will be responsible for maintaining documentation, collecting disclosures and completing post-activity reporting in collaboration with the AANS.
Fees and Application
The AANS requires a completed application for all joint providership activities. Upon approval, a $795 nonrefundable application fee will be invoiced. Additional service fees will apply following the activity.
Commercial Support Overview
All AANS CME activities must remain independent from commercial influence. Educational content must be developed and delivered without promotional bias, and any commercial support must follow ACCME requirements.
This includes documenting support through formal agreements and maintaining separation between educational funding and exhibit or promotional activity. Detailed guidance is available in the Program Overview.
