RE: Support for H.R. 10394, Protecting Approved Care Act
Dear Representatives Landsman and Onder:
As patient and physician advocates, the Alliance of Specialty Medicine (Alliance) writes in support of your legislation, H.R. 10394, the Protecting Approved Care Act. We appreciate that it would protect patients and physicians from Medicare Advantage (MA) plans reversing coverage decisions or changing coverage after care was approved.
The Alliance represents more than 100,000 specialty physicians and surgeons across 15 specialty and subspecialty societies. The Alliance is deeply committed to fostering patient access to the highest quality specialty care by advancing sound health care policy. The Alliance is supportive of Congress taking action to ensure that once prior authorization is granted, an MA plan may not deny coverage based on lack of medical necessity, reopen the determination except for good cause or fraud, nor change the billing code assigned to the claim to reduce payment except under limited exceptions.
