Coming in January — Journal of Neurosurgery: Case Lessons

A New Open-Access Publication from the Journal of Neurosurgery Publishing Group

The Journal of Neurosurgery Publishing Group (JNSPG) is proud to announce the creation of a new open-access, rapid-publication, online only, peer-reviewed periodical: Journal of Neurosurgery: Case Lessons. Articles will be published on the JNSPG website on a weekly basis.

Scholarly medical journals seek reports of detailed, high-quality research studies in the hopes of publishing the best scientific evidence. Given preference are randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews of such trials and well-designed cohort studies. Case reports and limited case series are often deemed of lower priority for publication, because their evidence is typically anecdotal; however, reports of one or a few cases do add to our knowledge. Alone, they may herald the emergence of a novel disease or the advent of a new cure. Added together, these reports build on new information, creating a database of sound clinical observations and experiences that, pooled together, can provide a higher level of evidence.

The JNSPG recognizes the value of high-quality neurosurgical case reports and limited case series. To ensure their wider publication, a new dedicated journal will be launched. Manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Neurosurgery: Case Lessons should be concise, data driven and convey a clear message. Peer review and article preparation will be rapid. All articles will be open access.

Note to Authors: Case reports and limited case series should no longer be submitted to JNSPG print journals.

Journal of Neurosurgery: Case Lessons will provide a new home and a higher-profile platform for neurosurgical case reports and limited case series. Without competition from larger, more detailed investigations, we expect to see greater dissemination of small neurosurgical studies and the lessons they teach to young as well as experienced clinicians and researchers.

The first issue will appear on the JNSPG website January 4, 2021. The submission site for the journal is now open.
