Shelly D. Timmons Honor Your Mentor Fund Announces Award Application

The AANS/CNS Section on Women in Neurosurgery proudly announces that applications for the inaugural Shelly D. Timmons Leadership Award are being accepted through the NREF.

The Timmons Honor Your Mentor (HYM) fund was established to support leadership development for all young neurosurgeons. With this award, the recipient receives a one-time fellowship to develop leadership skills. The awardee will have the opportunity for mentoring sessions with Dr. Timmons and shadow her at an AANS or other meeting. Additional mentors may be included on mutual agreement to tailor the experience to the recipient’s goals. The award covers reimbursement of travel expenses (up to a maximum of $1,000).

To apply, individuals must be either:

  1. A physician who has been accepted into, or who is currently in an approved neurological surgery residency training program; or
  2. A neurosurgeon no more than two years from having completed a neurosurgical residency training and/or clinical fellowship, who is full-time faculty in a teaching institution or employed in private practice in the United States, Canada or Mexico.

Membership in the AANS/CNS Section on Women in Neurosurgery is encouraged, but not mandatory.

The application deadline is Monday, February 15, 2021, with award notification scheduled for spring 2021. The awardee will be required to submit a final summary and expense report for reimbursement within 40 days of fellowship completion.
