Georgia Neurosurgeon Advances in his Bid for Congress

Supported by NeurosurgeryPAC, John A. Cowan, Jr., MD, FAANS, a neurosurgeon from Rome, Ga. advanced to an August 11 run-off to in Georgia’s 14th Congressional district. Dr. Cowan is currently a member of the board of the Medical Association of Georgia and president-elect of the George Neurosurgical Society. According to a new internal poll conducted by Battleground Connect, Dr. Cowan leads his opponent by a margin of 43% to 40%.

With 55% of the overall primary vote, Richard D. McCormick, MD, an emergency room physician from Suwanee, Ga. running for Congress in Georgia’s 7th Congressional district, advanced to the general election. Also supported by NeurosurgeryPAC, Dr. McCormick’s policy views align with organized neurosurgery, and if elected, he will add another critical physician voice in the U.S. Congress.
