Advanced Practitioners

The AANS recognizes the importance of advanced practitioners (APPs) in neurosurgery and the need to provide superior education for them to succeed and thrive. Neurosurgical APPs are nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) involved in neurosurgical care who practice in collaboration with neurosurgeons. They provide the ability to approach patients' health care as a team and can examine, test, treat and prescribe medications. They also offer patient education regarding diagnoses and treatment plans and work closely with the neurosurgical team to deliver high-quality care.
