Northwestern’s Chicago 2027 Advanced Training in Skull Base Surgery is a comprehensive, three-day course led by Dr. James Chandler, Dr. Robert Kern, and an internationally recognized multidisciplinary skull base team. Designed for both novice and experienced surgeons, this open and endoscopic course focuses on the latest techniques in skull base surgery utilizing state-of-the-art technology.
Participants will learn through a combination of didactic lectures, 3D and virtual reality anatomy demonstrations, real-world case discussions, and guided cadaveric dissections led by otolaryngology and neurosurgery faculty.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
Review the surgical approaches (open and endoscopic) for complex, skull base pathologies.
Recognize the advantages of a team-based approach for managing pre-, peri- and postoperative skull base pathologies.
Demonstrate proficient endoscopic instrument handling and performing standard open skull base approaches.
Master minimally invasive endoscopic endonasal approaches to the sellar and peri-sellar area through advanced orbital-zygomatic craniotomy.
